Keyboard lessons

Our piano and keyboard lessons are taught by Henry Salmon at the Atherstone-on-Stour (AOS) Studio or James Dodd, our Oxfordshire tutor at our Fritwell Studio. All keyboard lessons are one-to-one and parents of younger students are welcome to either sit in (bring ear plugs), relax in the waiting room or come back and collect at the end of the lesson… if you are one of our older students, please don't feel it is necessary to bring a parent!!

We have keyboards available to use or you can bring your own if it is portable. The prices include the use of instruments.

We are developing own carefully developed course and award scheme where students can take bronze, silver and gold awards in line with the drum, guitar, bass and music technology courses already on offer. Or you can choose to follow the Rockschool syllabus, which The Musical Box highly recommends, if you're after qualifications… exams are not compulsory!

Some of the things we can cover in piano and keyboard lessons:
  • Posture and technique
  • Learning both solo and accompaniment pieces in various musical styles
  • Technical stuff like scales, chord progressions, theory and reading
  • Song / Composition coaching
  • Playing in a band
  • Effective use and playing techniques for different keyboard voices
  • Keyboard Technology - getting the most out of your keyboard

Piano/Keyboard and schools – The Musical Box on the road

As well as offering private schools piano and keyboard lessons during the day, we can also visit schools - inspiring pupils with various musical workshops and demonstrations. Visit our Musical Box on Tour page for more information.

Trial lessons

You can choose to have a single trial lesson – to see whether you like playing the piano/keyboard… or even to see if you like us! Trial lessons are paid for at the time of the lesson.

Standard lessons

We run standard lessons in courses of 8. If you join mid course, the remaining lessons can be booked and paid for. This ensures you have a regular slot and enables us to plan projects and challenges that may take a while to master!

Lessons must be booked and paid for in advance – at the moment we take cash and cheques only.

Cancellation policy

We understand that there are times when things, events or whatever work against you and you can't make the day or time you booked. Providing you let us know 24 hours in advance you can rebook the lesson at any available slot within that 8 week course. Anything less than 24 hours unfortunately doesn't give us sufficient time to rebook the slot, so no rebooking is allowed…sorry.
