Vocal lessons
Our vocal lessons are taught by James Dodd, our Oxfordshire tutor. These one-to-one lessons are currently based either at student's homes, or at James's home where piano, guitar or CD accompaniment are all utilised. Once the Oxfordshire studio is complete this will become the base for all lessons where parents of younger students will be welcome to either sit in, relax in the waiting room or come back and collect at the end of the lesson… if you are one of our older students, please don't feel it is necessary to bring a parent!!
We are developing own carefully developed course and award scheme where students can take bronze, silver and gold awards in line with the drum, guitar, bass and music technology courses already on offer. Or you can choose to follow the Rockschool syllabus if you're after qualifications… exams are not compulsory! The Musical Box highly recommend the Rock School approach where the grades focus on contemporary songs and techniques, providing backing tracks and exercises on CD's, which help the student greatly to practise effectively outside of the lessons.
Some of the things we can cover in vocal lessons:
- Posture, technique and exercises
- Learning songs in various musical styles
- Backing vocals and close harmony vocals
- Technical stuff like musical notation, scales, intervals and theory
- Song / Composition coaching
- Singing in a live band
- Microphone Technique
- Sound System (PA) setup
