Brits 2017

Brits 2017!

So…… you probably know this year’s Brits awards was on Wednesday this week in its full glory at the O2 in London to celebrate British Music.

The evening was kicked off with ‘Little Mix’, mainly the parade of women as opposed to the music but I guess someone has to open it!  Clever tactic writing a song about your Ex but a bit sad to keep having a dig at the One direction guy!  Anyway enough said as I am not a huge fan but they did win ‘Best Single’. (really?).  I wonder if Mr Cowell influenced that decision?!

Then there was the ‘British Female Solo Artist’ category which went to ’Emeli Sande’. That lead to quite a long speech  from her and even her sister was dragged in…. bit odd but quite nice I suppose.

Then the late and great David Bowie was rightly awarded ‘Best British Male Solo Artist’.  Even from his grave he is still winning awards and such a huge influence which is a fitting tribute to such a legend.

Best British Group went to ‘The 1975’. These guys seem to be scooping up the awards left right and centre at the moment. Their performance was a bit strange with words on the screen behind them. I figure they might have been derogative comments people have made of them in the past which they are proving wrong? It was a bit confusing though as I thought at first the programme had been hacked!

Next was ‘Best British Breakthrough Act’ – Rag ‘n’ Bone Man - nice job …..amazing deep voice and you could see he was quite blown away with the recognition!

Then, I don’t think there was a dry eye in the house after Wham member; Andrew Ridgeley and Pepsi and Shirley paid a poignant tribute to the late George Michael followed by Chris Martin performing ‘Turn a Different Corner’. Sad to see the pain as another artist gone too soon!

Then of course Adele picked up an award despite being overseas.  She took the ‘Brits global success award’.

‘Best British Album’ went to David Bowie ‘Black Star’ whose amazing talent showed through right to the end…. still can’t believe he’s gone…. nice speech from his son too.

Drake picked up ‘Best International Male Solo Artist’, with ‘Best International group’ going to ‘A Tribe Called Quest’

Then another Simon Cowell creation, (or am I just being a bit sceptical?) ‘Best British Video’ went to One Directions ‘History’.

Now one performance that I thought was entertaining was Cold Play. I am not a fan but when ‘Chris Martin’ jumped into the audience I had to giggle. I thought the security team were going to follow but didn’t…. quite entertaining especially when he couldn’t get back on stage!

I think the most weird performance of the evening was from Katie Perry. It was a great performance but not quite sure about all the houses on legs!  At first I thought it was a Nationwide advert …..anyway I’m sure there is a message in there somewhere (?)

Ed Sheeran was there and took to the stage with his guitar and ‘Stormzy’ and they nailed it!  What a great performance. They played ‘Castle on the Hill’ and ‘Shape of You’.  Check it out below - worth a look!

Then the ending performance on the night was Robbie Williams. As always a true performer and was well received on the night.

And there you have it all over for another year, Simon Cowell a bit richer again and quite a few sore heads the day after I would imagine! Right better get back to work, until next week !
