Nikos Secret concert

The subject of live performance is something that is very close to all our hearts here at TMB. Each and every one of us knows that feeling you get when you’re on stage playing music for people – a feeling like no other. It’s great to learn how to play an instrument even if you’re the only one who gets real pleasure out of it(!), but any musician will tell you the real thrill comes when you share that skill, that feeling to a real live audience. We all remember our first time too – mine was in front of the whole school when I was 15, playing a mix of originals and covers in my first proper band.......and I was terrified! But once we’d got through it and basked in the applause, boy did it feel good – and I couldn’t wait to do it again!

For many of piano teacher Nikos’s students, a special informal concert last Thursday was their first experience of playing in front of people.......and every one of them rose to the challenge and gave it their best shot. Nikos decided back in September that he wanted to showcase his students talents and that a small concert sometime before Christmas would be just right, giving them plenty of time to prepare as well. He arranged the whole thing himself and the evening was so good and so much fun that we plan to take his lead and get other teachers to organise similar events. Students had their first, or in one or two cases, second taste of live performance, families and friends scoffed mince pies and guzzled mulled wine and Nikos finished off the evening playing four songs himself including a beautiful self-penned piece and of course a singalong Xmas tune!

So watch out for some video action from the night on our Facebook page and in the meantime start talking to YOUR teacher about arranging a Special Secret Concert.......

Love and peace,
