Festival Season Over

Hi everyone,

I’m Max, and I’ve been charged with a bit of blog writing and the setting up of TMB Spotify lists for you lot to listen to.  So please look out for my monthly TMB contributions!

As summer is drawing to a close, I thought it might be worthwhile for us all to take a look back at what a fantastic summer we’ve had, and how amazing it has been for the music world.

On the 26th of August, Ed Sheeran finished off the worlds biggest ever tour in Ipswich, specifically Chantry Park, a place where he grew up. Ed’s Ipswich gig was the final destination in a 260-concert long tour, lasting pretty much 2 years, and with almost 9 million people going to see him worldwide. Check out these pics - Yep I was there!!!

With songs like “A Team” and “Galway Girl” being played amongst other favourites, including “I See Fire”, a personal favourite of mine, the performance was always going to be a hit. The graphics and design on the screens behind was impeccable, and Ed’s own work with a loop pedal for songs such as “You Need Me Man, I Don’t Need You” was outstanding.

But there's more.... at this Chantry Park event, Ed Sheeran was supported by two other artists – The Darkness, most famously known for their hit song “I Believe In A Thing Called Love” (yes that one with the very high singing) and up and coming artist Lewis Capaldi. The hilarious scot put on a strong performance, ending with his most popular song “Someone You Loved.” He had the crowd singing along to every word (whether they knew them or not unfortunately!)  and stopped to talk briefly about wearing one of his famous outlandish tracksuits.

This week alone, Lewis Capaldi has actually just sold out 60’000 tickets to a show in Ireland, leading Niall Horan, formerly of One Direction to publicly congratulate him on Instagram – turns out they’re good friends! And Fun Fact for the day, did anyone know that Lewis Capaldi is actually related to famous actor Peter Capaldi? (Yes, the one from Doctor Who). Bit of trivia for you.

Anyway, Ed Sheeran in Ipswich was not the only big event over summer. Boardmasters was cancelled, much to the horror of many teens looking forward to the festival, although festivals such as Reading still went ahead. One that I went to was The Citadel Festival in London, with one of my favourite bands of the moment as the headline, Catfish and the Bottlemen.

The young rock band debuted their new album “The Balance” with songs including “Longshot” and “Sidewinder.” An electric performance from the band had the whole crowd involved, with the unique voice of Vann McCann carrying across Gunnersbury Park. The show was amazing as was the atmosphere of the crowd – it’s a smaller, less well known festival that I can definitely recommend to anyone looking for a more affordable concert.

Look out for my next blog in November about this years top 5 rising stars in the music world.

Thanks

Max wink
