Our piano lessons are taught in our comfortable soundproofed studios, with a range of pianos and keyboards to play.
All lessons are one-to-one and parents of younger students are welcome to either sit in (bring ear plugs), relax in the waiting room or come back and collect at the end of the lesson… if you are one of our older students, please don't feel it is necessary to bring a parent!
People often ask us what the difference is between keyboards and piano. Piano is often held in higher regard then keyboards. Well, our answer to that is that piano and keyboards are both equally as complex and take as much skill and talent to master as each other!
Techniques are the same, as are scales and theory. The difference comes with the music you are playing and the style you choose to head towards. In bands and more contemporary collaborations, keyboards tend to be more suitable. Keys give you a variety of sounds to use, giving songs a more unique and in-style feel. Keys also suggest that the music will be more rock, pop and contemporary than piano, which lends itself to more classical and traditional genres.
We firmly believe that music lessons can (and should) be fun! We encourage our students to learn songs that they love and want to learn. We’ll break down the parts into bite sized chunks, along with any specific techniques needed.
If we’re working on a specific technique or element, we’ll suggest cool songs or parts that will help accelerate the learning process.
For those of a more studious nature, we have our own carefully developed course and award scheme where students can take bronze, silver and gold awards in their chosen instrument and music technology. Or you can choose to follow the Rockschool or Trinity Guildhall syllabus if you're after qualifications…but remember, exams are not compulsory!
The studios are equipped with various electronic pianos and keyboards (the Stratford studio also has a baby grand piano which is lovely to play), a good stereo system and a whole load of resource material. You can of course bring your own keyboard as long as it is easily portable!
You can choose to follow a syllabus or we can tailor lessons to address specific concerns, queries or just to learn that ‘one' song that will make your musical life complete!
We believe that playing in a band is an incredibly rewarding experience. It’s a way of making life long friends, experiencing the buzz of playing live, meeting new people and it’s also a fantastic way of honing your playing skills.
That’s why we hold weekly band days and variety of other workshops where players (young and old) can refine their muso “life skills”.
The sessions are fun, informal and we match player level so no one feels out of their depth.
My daughter really enjoyed her piano lesson this week and I thought Henry was brilliant. Long gone are the days of boring music lessons with an ancient teacher - I remember my own school experiences!
